Choosing the Right Background for Your Video Testimonial
1 January 2024One of the benefits of our video testimonial service is that we will record you remotely through an app on your mobile phone in a place that’s convenient for you.
However, one of the most important things to get right when recording a video testimonial is the location. Below, we’ve put together some tips on choosing and preparing the perfect spot, with some real-life examples:
- Look for an area that is bright and well-lit
- Try to avoid having a window or bright light behind you
- Choose a place that has a tidy background. A solid colour wall works better than a cluttered background
- Keep in mind that the best background is often not at your desk, so it’s worth considering other areas in your home or office
- Ensure where you sit is relatively quiet and free from distractions. We recommend you don’t wear headphones but speak directly into the phone, this is due to the disruption it can cause with the sound quality, therefore choosing somewhere quiet is important
- We suggest wearing something comfortable and cool, which isn’t too patterned
- It’s also important we position the camera well to create a great recording. To achieve this, you will need to prop up your mobile phone at eye level. We recommend having a look at this prior to starting the call wherever possible, but the Creative Director will be on hand to support you in getting this right at the beginning of the call.
- Household items can create a great makeshift phone stand. For instance, gather some books and lean your phone against a heavy mug on top of the stack of books
- If you have it, specialised equipment such as a tripod or phone stand work well too
- Depending on your chosen environment and availability to do so, we may take a second shot using the wide back lens on your phone which requires us to flip your phone. We will start with the front facing camera (commonly known as the selfie camera), but may switch to this different perspective for the second take. This shouldn’t require many adjustments, but the Creative Director will assist you in this set up
